3 websites for educators

In creating my own blog, I have created and reviewed three websites that are relevant to my job as an educator in a large Philadelphia urban high school. In my line work as an educator, I am faced with the following issues climate (classroom management), lesson plans (instructional delivery) and staying current in educational news. The three sites chosen are and critiqued are:

1. http://edutechwiki.unige.ch/en/Educational_technology

2. http://www.schoolclimate.org/programs/safeCivilSchools.php

3. http://www.eschoolnews.com/

There are thousands of sites to choose from and finding the right ones would take a lifetime! These are just a few for now and more added later. I set up some other pages for browsing under Urban Education and Social Studies k-12.

I chose http://edutechwiki.unige.ch/en/Educational_technology this website clearly defines educational technology. The definition will continue to change in the future as technology continues to evolve in education. The websites gives the reader multiple links to other resources in design, technology and learning pedagogies. Overall, this is a springboard to multiple resources for the reader. Today, educators can’t deny the power of technology in the classroom.

The second website I chose is http://www.schoolclimate.org/programs/safeCivilSchools.php because I am always looking to improve the climate of the school. Today schools are addressing issues that affect the school climate. This websites addresses issues I feel are relevant to school climate. School climate is different than discipline. This website has strategies addressing the needs of the whole child. This website gives multiple ideas to address student’s social and emotional needs. We need to address the whole child for a student to become a successful adult. We are no longer addressing just the academic needs of a student.

The last website I chose http://www.eschoolnews.com/ a current event website in education. I feel it is relevant to keep up with what is happening in education not only in my current school district but overall. The websites has articles from national to local news articles.
